Updated September 20, 2026. Moisai returns to the Domus Aurea from October 2 to 18, 2026, combining an evening guided visit through Nero’s palace with live performance in the Octagonal Room.

Moisai 2026 at a glance

  • Where: Domus Aurea
  • Dates: October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18
  • Visit begins: 17:30 with staggered entry
  • Performance: 18:30 in the Octagonal Room
  • Full ticket: €18
  • Reduced: €2 for eligible EU citizens aged 18–24
  • Important: temperature inside is around 10°C

This is one of October’s most interesting Rome events because the monument is not simply used as a backdrop: each evening is built around the relationship between contemporary performance and the Domus Aurea itself.

Moisai 2026 dates

Events are scheduled on October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18. Entry begins at 17:30 in staggered groups for the guided visit; the performance begins at 18:30.

2026 programme highlights

The official programme includes Jacopo Veneziani, Andrea Pennacchi, performers from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s Fabbrica Young Artist Program, mk, Tlon, Frida Bollani Magoni, Spellbound Contemporary Ballet and the Figli di Mimmo Cuticchio, among others.

Tickets

The Archaeological Park of the Colosseum lists the full ticket at €18 and a €2 reduced ticket for eligible EU citizens aged 18 to under 25. Tickets are sold online through the official Colosseum ticketing system.

See the official Moisai 2026 page.

Important: it is cold inside

The Domus Aurea remains around 10°C inside. Bring a layer even if Rome is warm outside, and wear comfortable shoes.

Is it worth it?

Yes if you want something more unusual than a standard evening tour. It combines archaeology, access to a remarkable monument and a site-specific performance without feeling like another generic museum event.

What to pair with it

Do not pair it with an exhausting evening itinerary. Spend the afternoon around Monti, Colle Oppio or Ancient Rome, then keep dinner nearby.

For a daytime archaeology anchor, see the guided Colosseum, Forum and Palatine tour. For the rest of the month, use our Rome in October 2026 guide and Rome at night guide.

What the ticket actually includes

This is not simply a concert held near an archaeological monument. Each evening starts with a guided route through the Domus Aurea, moving from the western sector toward the Octagonal Room. The performance begins only after the archaeological visit reaches that space. The structure matters because the site and performance are designed as one experience.

How long should you allow?

Arrive before your assigned entry, not at 18:30. The official programme begins visits at 17:30 in staggered groups, with the performance starting at 18:30. Allow the whole early evening rather than booking dinner at a time that forces you to watch the clock.

Which date should you choose?

Choose by artist and art form, not simply by whichever date is available. The 2026 programme spans theatre, music, contemporary dance, philosophy and performance. If you already know that dance or spoken theatre is not for you, checking the individual evening will make the experience far more valuable.

English-language visits

The official programme specifies that an English-language guided visit is available for music and dance performances. International visitors should check the ticket detail for their chosen evening rather than assuming every performance has the same language arrangement.

Why the 10°C warning matters

The Domus Aurea remains cool even when Rome outside is mild or warm. A light jacket is not optional if you get cold easily. Comfortable closed shoes also make sense because this is an archaeological environment, not a conventional theatre foyer.

Who will enjoy Moisai most?

It is a particularly good fit for repeat visitors, archaeology lovers who have already seen the Colosseum, and travellers who want one unusual cultural evening rather than another standard monument. It is less suitable for someone who has only one night in Rome and mainly wants the classic illuminated centre.

How to build the afternoon around it

Stay geographically close. Monti, Colle Oppio and the Colosseum area are obvious choices. A good structure is Ancient Rome or Monti during the afternoon, Moisai in the early evening and dinner nearby afterwards. Crossing to the Vatican immediately beforehand adds unnecessary risk.

FAQ

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. The official event page states that tickets are sold exclusively online. Capacity is tied to guided-entry groups, so this is not an event to leave to chance.

Is it just in Italian?

The programme varies. English guided visits are specifically indicated for music and dance dates; check the exact event before booking.

Can I visit the Domus Aurea without the performance?

The monument also has its normal visit programme, but the Moisai ticket is a specific event format combining the guided route and performance.
